The Tampa Bay Buccaneers put an end to their four-game losing streak by defeating the Tennessee Titans 20-6. The Bucs’ defense was outstanding, preventing the Titans from scoring a single touchdown and displaying efficiency at all three levels. Baker Mayfield led the offensive charge, connecting with Rachaad White and Mike Evans for touchdowns during the intense 60-minute battle. White took advantage of the space provided, while rookie Calijah Kancey set the tone on defense by imposing his will in the backfield.
The Bucs won the coin toss and deferred, opting to send their defense out first. The Titans managed to move the ball down the field and into Tampa Bay territory. However, Vita Vea’s impressive play on third-and-11 resulted in a loss of nine yards for rookie quarterback Will Levis, forcing a Nick Folk 38-yard field goal. On the Bucs’ opening offensive drive, despite Chris Godwin’s 17-yard gain and Mike Evans’ 20-yarder, Baker Mayfield was intercepted on third-and-15 after a sack on second down.

Mike Evans scored a touchdown
Roger McCreary successfully gained possession of the ball and proceeded to advance it by 16 yards, ultimately reaching the 17-yard line. The defensive unit of the Tampa Bay team showcased their strength by effectively thwarting the Titans’ offensive efforts. Shaq Barrett made a significant impact on the defensive side by executing an impressive 10-yard sack, while Vita Vea’s outstanding run defense added to the challenges faced by the Titans in advancing. During the initial quarter of the game, the Buccaneers’ defense demonstrated their skill by limiting Derrick Henry, the Titans’ main rushing threat, to a mere 4 yards.
In the second quarter, Todd Bowles loaded the line of scrimmage, and Devin White flew through the C-gap, dropping Levis for a loss of six. This play set up third-and-12 and an ensuing field goal attempt by Folk, which he missed, keeping the score at 3-0. The Bucs’ offense followed with a quick three-and-out, putting the defense back on the field. White disrupted the passing window on second down, batting down Levis’s pass and setting up third-and-long, which eventually led to a punt for Tennessee. On the subsequent drive for Tampa Bay, the home team reached the end zone, with Mike Evans scoring a touchdown.

20-6 defeat against the Buccaneers
The Titans sailed into Raymond James Stadium with the famous pirate ship as their backdrop, hoping to turn their season around. Regrettably, they encountered choppy seas and endured a 20-6 defeat against the Buccaneers. Coach Mike Vrabel took responsibility for the team’s poor performance, stating that nobody was good enough, including himself. Quarterback Will Levis struggled to get the offense going, resulting in field goals instead of touchdowns.
Running back Derrick Henry was met with defenders in the backfield on several carries, and the defense failed to make enough stops. Defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons expressed frustration with the team’s losing streak and emphasized the need to score more points and get off the field. Despite an early lead, the Titans couldn’t maintain their momentum and suffered another disappointing loss.

LEVIS TIME
On Tuesday, the Titans officially announced that Levis would be their quarterback going forward. The rookie, who was selected as the 33rd overall pick from Kentucky, had an impressive debut by throwing four touchdown passes in a victory against Atlanta on October 29th.
This marked the highest number of such passes for the Titans since Tannehill achieved the same feat in the 2022 season opener against the New York Giants.
FRUSTRATED, TOO
Tampa Bay has faced challenges in terms of scoring as well. In their recent game against Houston, the offense managed to score a season-high 37 points. However, in the three previous games against Detroit, Atlanta, and Buffalo, they were only able to score a combined total of 37 points.
When asked about the loss to the Texans, receiver Chris Godwin emphasized the importance of treating it like any other game. He believes that regardless of the outcome, it is crucial to move on and focus on the upcoming game. Holding onto past results for too long can hinder future success.
JUST SCORE MORE
The Titans have yet to secure a victory while playing away from home this season, as they currently hold a winless record of 0-4. This extends to their previous three road losses from the previous year. Their most recent victory away from Nashville occurred on November 17th of the previous year, when they secured a remarkable win in a prime-time match against Green Bay.
This has been evident in all of their road games this season, as well as in their last two road defeats, where they were only able to accumulate a total of 16 points in each match.
RUN ISSUES
In 2022, Tennessee’s defense was renowned as the NFL’s most formidable against the run. However, the current state of their defense no longer reflects that reputation. For four consecutive games, the Titans have allowed their opponents to amass a minimum of 139 rushing yards. On the other hand, the Buccaneers have been averaging a mere 78.3 rushing yards per game.
